Do Easy: Easy Does It

"Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated."- Confucius

As a Project Manager by profession, I am passionate about simplification, and streamlining manufacturing and business processes. In Lean Six Sigma training, we learned methodologies to eliminate waste and inefficiencies. Cutting hold times, getting rid of defects, reducing costs...SIMPLIFY. One could say that I am thus trained in keeping things simple--an Expert of Easy.

However, in my personal life, in the chaos of modern day living in the 21st century with hundreds of distractions, it turns out that I may be doing things to hard way. I often get caught up in rushing things, and overcomplicating things.

We often get caught up in this- in rushing and making things more complex. The solution? Slow down and Do Easy.

The Discipline of DE, Do Easy

"DE is a way of doing. It is a way of doing everything you do. DE simply means doing whatever you do in the easiest most relaxed way you can imagine which is also the quickest and most efficient way, as you will find as you advance in DE. "

It is slowing down, being in the present, and mindfully applying yourself to the activity at hand. It is keeping things simple and relaxed.

How to Do Easy?

Here's an artistically beautiful, calming, and effectively instructional video on "The Discipline of D.E., " directed by Oscar-winning film director Gus Van Sant (in his very early filmmaking days) and written by William S. Burroughs.

I invite you to take a 9-minute pause in your busy life to watch the video, or at least read the script here on Melancholia. Trust me, it's worth it.

Do easy. Easy does it.
